Ongoing Programs

Listing of sports and fitness programs offered through the MWR Fitness Center and MWR Community Classes Program. The availability of these classes change during the year, so check the event listings on our website for specifics on class times and possible fees.

Family Fitness Fridays
MWR Fitness Center runs this free program during the year that is dedicated to family fun and fitness. From 5 - 7 pm you can join MWR Fitness staff for exercise and sports activities in the main court area. Parents and children will join together for obstacle course events, gymnastics, sports fun and other physical fitness activities.

These activities are geared for youth ages 0-12 years old. If a child is 10 and over, they may work out in the Fitness Center cardio room or weight room if they have attended the Youth Fitness Certification Course. Parents of children ages 10-14 must still accompany them at all times in the facility. Friday nights are focused on our family's health and fitness. Join the fun. Youth Certification Class
This program is a practical and classroom certification to teach youth ages 10+ proper technique and basic fitness principles for the safe usage of the fitness facility and equipment. Current Navy Personnel Command policy indicates that youth ages 10-13 can use facility if they are accompanied by a parent/guardian (over age 18) at all times and if they have completed this youth certification. Youth ages 14+ also must complete a youth fitness certification to use the MWR Fitness Center, including weight room and cardio room, but they do not need to be accompanied by a parent at all times. Parents are encouraged to complete the youth certification with their child. There is no fee for this program. The class is offered on a monthly basis throughout the year and during school vacation weeks. Appointments may be made on an individual basis if youth cannot make class times. Pre-Season Conditioning Exercises for Upcoming Sports Events
MWR has pre-season conditioning exercises for all the sporting events. If you are preparing for a sport, ask the fitness staff for information on the training and conditioning program for a specific sport. We can help. Prevent injuries and have a successful sport season by preparing your body for the specific movement. Exercises include strength, plyometrics, movement and conditioning exercises, stretching and cool down. This information and the training with the fitness staff is free. Command Fitness Leader and Command Sports Meetings
MWR Fitness and Sports staff put on a free monthly meeting for command fitness leaders, assistant command fitness leaders and command sports reps to assist them with fitness programming ideas, provide information on upcoming MWR events, to provide continued exercise education and to provide information on captain’s cup by-laws and updates.

Community Classes
T
he Community Classes Program offers a number of classes for all ages at the Fitness Center .  Some examples are Creative Movement & Ballet for Children, Shotokan Karate, Hip Hop Dance for Kids and Salsa Dance for Adults.  Make sure to check out the Community Classes page under the Leisure tab for a full and up-to-date listing.
